Creatives at Risk
IZOLYATSIA arts residency program in Donetsk, Ukraine
Ukraine emergency humanitarian residencies
In September 2022, I was leading planning for a Res Artis conference in Kyiv, Ukraine titled How to inhabit instability? to be hosted by IZOLYATSIA in cooperation with Ukrainian Institute, House of Europe and Goethe-Institut Ukraine. When we devised this title, we could never have imagined the horrific events that have unfolded in the Russia/Ukraine War. In response, I was able to pioneer emergency humanitarian residencies mobilised by the network of Res Artis members. This provided countless life-saving residency opportunities to Ukrainian arts and cultural professionals. I am grateful to Swedish Arts Residency Network (SWAN) for developing tools to support other arts residencies to adapt to the cause.
Resources for Creatives at Risk
In 2022 when I was leading Res Artis, I joined forces with like-minded cultural mobility organisations to work together and pool resources for Creatives at Risk. Res Artis, TransArtists, On The Move, Artists at Risk Connection and TransCultural Exchange combined our unique areas of expertise to advocate and develop resources that amplify aid and support of arts and cultural workers in need.
